I do not know who the heck convinced people around the world that animals want to be inside their houses, rather than outside in nature where they belong.
There is no shortage of excuses why people have animals in their homes. And just like all social conspiracies, people know these excuses are bunch of lies, but they go along with them.
Some people always talk about saving animals from the animal shelter. How long have we been doing this? It seems clear to me that the supply never ends. And that, at one point, something else must be done. If you dig deep in it, you probably find the same people who sell "pet supply" sponsor the shelters and perhaps give money to people to bread animals and give them to the shelter. It is really suspicious how there is always supply of "pets" to go around for everyone.
It is ironic, particularly in "civilized society", how cats and dogs are brought in, and people are left on the street to die. Take the United States for example. In the USA, as of 2025 numbers,1 745,652 individuals were homeless, 266,320 individuals were living unsheltered on a single night. On the other hand there is roughly 76 million cats and 74 million dogs as pets in the USA.2 That number does not include other "pets". 150 million cats and dogs found their way inside the house, yet a 1/4 million homeless people do seem able to find their way into a house!
We are loosing many species on this planet daily. Many animals, insects, birds, etc. are getting extinct and will never be seen again. Us, mankind is responsible directly or indirectly for this war against nature. Some beautiful animals were hunted to extinction by mankind. So, would not be the smarter and more logical thing to do is to save these species before saving freaking dogs and cats that are overflowing shelters! Would not that be the more noble thing to do? Can we at least stop the savege attack on these really helpless species. Who knows, maybe even we can grow a conscious and stop our aggression against the environment.
The price of a can of food for a pet can be anywhere from \$1 to \$3, granted not all pet food comes from a can. But just think about that. For one cat or a dog, one is most likely to spend on can food a year more than an average income of a human being in Sudan or Chad.3 And when we as a society do that, we cannot talk about human rights anymore. We just decided to feed the dogs and the cats before humans.
Another idiotic cliché you hear people repeating all the the time, "pets give you unconditional love". Animals are emotional prostitutes. Try not feeding them for few days and see how much love you get. I am not really sure whose brain to examine when I hear these ridiculous claims. Clearly most people, particularly pet owners, are in need for emotional support. Sadly they cannot manage to get it from their own specie.
As human we are supposed to evolve to get smarter, wiser and more sophisticated. Yet, when I see grown men and women running behind their dogs (and it is the right thing to do) and picking their waste I wonder, do not you have better things to do. When I see people letting their dogs eat from their own spoons or lick their hands without washing it, do you really think I am ever coming to your house for dinner! Do I really want to have my coffee or sip my wine watching your dog or cat licking its ass! Do I really want to sit on a chair full of hair! And how many times have the cat or the dog throw up on this carpet! Do you see how disgusting this is or not! And by the way, these jokes people make after their pet smelling up the joint, are not really funny. We installed an exhaust fan in the human bathroom for a reason.
I would like to know what makes pet owners think that because they are feeding the pet, now the have the right to pull their nails out. What gives them the right to castrate or spade their pets? Is ventriculocordectomy human? Is keeping an animal in a kennel, 10x10 room or even a house for hours, human? Is that how they return the "unconditional love"! And of course there is my favorite "we put it to sleep" nonsense. Really, can they wake it up? No, they killed it at will.
I always wonder what gives the pet owner the right to let the pet out to the yard and let it bark all day. Some even leave them inside their apartments, houses and even hotel rooms to also bark all day. Do not others have the right to peaceful environment in their own house or room! Why, like many other things in society, did the owner take this responsibility if he or she are not ready for it financially. I.e. perhaps they should move to the country get couple of acres of land, dedicate time to play with the pet and teach it how to behave. We cannot blame the dogs for misbehaving if the damn human does not get it.
Please grow up. Find a sophisticated hobby, make friends, participate in social activities and for heaven sake quit adopting animals, adopt a homeless person, a refugee family, heck even become a big brother or sister, or perhaps a foster parent. Let the "pets" go back to the wild. They will be much happier there.
